Chiang Mai, the most popular city of the North, has been a “must visit” city of Thailand for years. Second only to Bangkok in size, it is located along the northern part of the Mae Ping River and has about 1,603,220 in habitants. It is well known for arts, antiques, history, traditions, scenery, waterfalls, hot springs and beautiful weather. The city is close to forest covered mountains. The most interesting peak, Doi Suthep, has been Chiang Mai’s focal point of interest and inspiration for centuries. Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, a glittering golden-spired temple, and the Phuping Royal Palace, are located on this mountain.
